Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 - 9:09 p.m. i got a call from my friend selma back in utah this morning. she and my friend, her fiance, yuri, are moving to portland and want to stay at our home for a little bit. it is good to touch base with her. i'm kind of a punk rock big sister to her. i took her to her first shows and put her up when she ran away and got kicked out. she sometimes refered to me and my ex and "mom" and "dad". come to think of it she wasn't the only one who did that. there were a couple of kids who called us mom and dad... it was probably because we would buy them beer and let them pass out on our floors. selma refered to the break-up as a divorce. anyway, she moved as a refugee to the US from yugoslavia 6 years ago and i met her almost 5 years ago. it has been interesting watching her grow up. we were talking about all of this shit that was going on. she has such funny comentary on american culture. she is part muslim and part gypsy and i asked if she had experienced any prejudice recently and she said not really unless she was with yuri. the funny thing is that yuri is filipino and swedish. people are really misdirected in their hate. she has been having bad dreams about ethnic cleansing and child killing. she has the weirdest sense of humor she was like "i lived through that shit, i don't need to dream about it" and "americans don't know what war is, they are just lazy and watch TV" she also said that she looked at her caller ID and it said "US government" apparently they are calling her family asking about someone who used to live in the area. weird. i'm excited to have her move up here. i need to have someone to talk to that i know i can count on. she has been though so much shit with me. i guess i have been there for a lot of her shit too. it is also awesome that her fiance is a kid that seems totally perfect for her in a really wacky way. yes, there are tons more things i should be writign about this but i a mfeeling lazy and need to get my shit together for my lonesome kinko's run tonight. i hate going to kinko's by my self, it makes me feel all paranoid. oh well....-alex
