Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 - 9:20 p.m.

today was yucky outside but i went anyway and rode around in the raindrops and cold. then joey and i walked home from southeast talking. i always love it when we do that. we lose time in conversation and it is always so grounding. sudenly 5 miles goes by in minuts and i'm left wondering at home why my feet hurt so much.

i was thinking that joey ramone was only 4 years younger than george harrison and they dies in the same year. then i thought that joey ramone is older than my dad. my dad never rocked like joey ramone... then again i don't think he did as many drugs.

joe and i were talking about the handmade bazaar at breakfast. they want to be able to make money off of their crafts but i wonder how many of htem realized that is what joe and i do? we live off of selling things that we believe in to other people. i guess i'm more into the DIY ethic of it rather than selling my wares at expensive prices to people who have money. they wouldn't appreicate it it would just be some quaint thing they picked up at a craft fair in the pearl district. i want to support them and be involved but i also feel obligated at the same time. joe and i were talking about how they would probably do better if they made a pdx handmade bazaar collective website out of it. it would be a better showcase and a more supportive community. at least we think so. is it wrong or selfish to want to nurture a diy community rather than exploit yuppies with money? who knows.

speaking of money and yuppies... joe and i went by the mall i was thinking of taking him to a movie. we wandered around and laughed at people and their cerdit card debt outfits. joe had never been in a hot topic before so we went in and watched the mass display of consumerism. it blows my mind that places like that can still exist in this economy. places like that were invented out of the mid 90's ecomnomic boom of people with disposable income. it left a bad taste in my mouth and fueled conversation on the way home as to what people get out of shopping there and other things.

we also hung our 4" block at the gallery for the charm bracelet art piece thing. there is this art exhibit that has 500 blocks of wood with velcro on the back. people all over portland get to decorate them and hang them by number in the grid formation. i'm number 14. the title is "meeting people" and i guess we are supposed to go to the opening and meet people. this is hte first time any of my stuff has been in a real art gallery, kinda cool. i didn't realize the depth of being able to read into it until after is was done. i guess many people can justify their actions post facto. it makes it easier. there is a typed fake letter to a friend on red paper on the back with pieces of the inside design of the envelope (the kind you get from a bank) torn and placed over than in places with a cut out of a 40's era war time soldier writing a letter from an old national geographic. the edges are covered with silver tape and the words "to" and "from" are on opposite corners with big stick on letters. it wanted my square to have to do with mail ince it is such a big part of my life but this turned out to be a process of a letter or layers of a letter. ok, i'm thinking of this too much. i like it though.

when we got home our housemates had made joe a birthday cake with a question mark candle. it was very ncie of them.-alex
